Helen Muir
Mixed Media Artist
I am a mixed media artist; I incorporate a variety of processes from printmaking, paper cutting, photography and textiles.
I use unique handmade processes to preserve a creative integrity and individuality within my work.
The endless possibilities of creating art constantly fascinates me.
I take inspiration from nature with flora and fauna which provide the motifs, inspiration and forms within my work.
I am constantly drawn to man's inherent need for a consistent connection to the natural world.
Many of us either consciously or subconsciously surround ourselves with living plants, animals, and representations of nature as design within our homes as a source for pleasure and to maintain a connection to nature.
Within my work I have been exploring the potential of nature-based decoration as a secondary stimulus combining the man made human decoration experience and our inherent need for escapism from the modern world. In creating work that is a representation of medicinal plants I am aiming to create a connection with both nature and health since, in an urban environment, we reaffirm our connection with nature through the use of decoration and pattern.
